Do a Google search on "watt meter". What you do is plug a device (TV, radio, etc ...) into the watt meter which you then plug into the wall. It will give a read-out on how many watts are being used.

I really like your blog! Interesting about the remotes needing standby. My cable tv setup seems to have two different 'offs.' I always thought it was off then realized the buzz I was hearing. Learned to get it through the second 'off' level so it seemed off. But since the remote is still working, I guess I've got another level there drawing current -- at least no noise or heat!

Wondering what you use to measure the watts used on your devices ...

While I agree that it's most effective to aim at the big offenders first, we all have to do our part. In our own little cumulative worlds, that's what we can control. Seems like quite a few of the big guys are turning down their night lights. What an impact we all could make, together, on our environment. I've actually heard that the damage the U.S. does, compared to , say, China, is a drop in the bucket. Nevertheless ... awareness, action, and example has to start somewhere!

So much to do, so little time.
