I think everyone is on the wrong track. Now, we have to think out of the box. The oil companies have use their incredible sums of money to buy politicians that will pass laws to stop other companies and people from developing alternative sources of energy. If we could find HONEST people to run for Senate and Congress that would have the courage to show an oil lobbyist the door, then we can develop alternative sources of energy. One good example is to use HHO to run a small high compression motor that drives a small but powerful generator that provides electricity run a high torque electric motor that can propel a mini van up 70 mph and also provide enough electricity to run the vehicles lights, fans and air conditioner. WE HAVE THE CURRENT TECHNOLOGY TO ACCOMPLISH THIS!!! And the vehicle could be price affordable for most people. Sincerely, Dan

Since there are multiple oil and refining companies, I don't think it's a monopoly. But my concern is that they are cooperatively and purposefully manipulating the gasoline reserves/supplies to artificially inflate prices. Meaning, they are deliberately not building refineries, keeping reserves low, and/or taking refineries off-line so as to keep gasoline quantities low and thus keeping prices high. This all started in 2005 with Hurricane Katrina. Since then we have suddenly had shortages and are continually operating at 100% capacity. It's as if overnight we were no longer able to keep up wth demand.

I think their argument that it costs too much money to build new refineries is weak when they are bringing in billions of dollars in profit each quarter. They don't want to build them because it makes their product less expensive and reduces their profit margins.

In controlling the fuel market, and refusing to build new refineries, aren't the oil companies holding an illegal monopoly?
I mean now in the USA, gasoline is past the $4 mark. It is hurting low income families, college students, and many more.

In addition, the cost of diesel (a byproduct of gasoline production) is going through the roof at more than $5 a gallon. This is having a direct effect on food, lumber, and many other supplies that are transported by diesel rigs/trucks.

Where does this greed end?
.
.
We need to have a petition that will make it mandatory to open new refineries...
