Ilive in the tropics in nth queenslannd australia, we have huge electrical storms every monsoon season. About 2 seconds before lightning strikes an area underneath my home on stilts makes a tick tick noise, and then it will often spark a bljue/white flash about 1/2 meter to 1 meter long. I have no idea why this happens it is scary and I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions to why this is happening...

My husband and I were having breakfast this morning during a thunderstorm. Suddenly there was a bright blue light about a foot in front of me and a blinding white flash and huge bang. I remember screaming and finding my arms waving uncontrollably around my head with no input from me. It took about half a minute for them to stop. Afterwards I felt asleep for one and a half hours sitting up at the table. We could see no damage to the house.

Just a note from personal experience.... We had lightning lightning hit our roof and travel through the circuits of the house. While doing so, it fried about $8000 dollars of electronics and our furnace as well. Despite the fact that there were first hand witnesses (our neighbors saw it hit) the insurance company tried to claim that it had been a electrical surge which they dont cover. Because we had had the fire department out to check out the rest of the house and was able to identify the location where the lightning had hit- the insurance company was forced to honor the policy. But in the end they only pay the depreciated value of the items that were destroyed, which is not enough to replace them. So now we have the heavy duty power strips capable of handling lightning surges for the more expensive items.

Tuesday at about 0830 I was in bed asleep, (shift worker) when I heard a loud booming crack and immediately felt tingling paralysis down my left side. the sensation was like an electric fence for livestock. When it was over I felt paralyzed and exhausted, whether from working till 0400 or the 'shock' I'm not sure.
My head was maybe a foot from an outlet and there is always a 2.5 lb. nickel plated object under my pillow (an old habit from deployment).
There's a red mark on my neck from my chain, other than that there is no other mark on me, or my wall, bed or outlet. All my appliances are fine, was I struck by lightning?!?!

Last night I was sitting a few metres from the dining table during a thunder storm. The lightning was extremely close and suddenly an arc of blue/white electricity arched from the ceiling to the floor next to the dining table and the pets reacted to it as well, so I'm sure I didn't imagine it! We live on the ground floor of an apartment block in a dense neighbourhood, and I assume there's some kind of grounding for the building. Everything works fine, but I'm left wondering where it traveled from.
