Aspen Tree Mystery

April 5th, 2008 by imagery

I have had a grouping of Aspen trees in my front and backyard for about 5 years now and this is the first year I have ever seen Aspen seeds! According to the University of Minnesota, Aspens can sometimes reproduce through seeding as opposed to root suckering.

I have seen several Aspen trees in our neighborhood here in Old West Lawrence, Kansas. They are very pretty trees. I lost a Cherry tree in our front yard last year and had considered replacing it with an Aspen tree. If you have a few seeds left, I would love to try to sprout one and grow an Aspen here.

They lasted about 2 weeks and then fell to the ground after the leaves started coming in. If any more show up I’ll send them your way.

We have two types of Aspens … I know one of them is named Quaking and I think the other one is named Poplar. I like the Poplar ones better. They tend to be a little less full.
